Destination pages are the primary way users browse for accommodations, guides, or trips. We’re building a library of fishing destinations worldwide. You can view an example of our data pipeline destination object below. Destinations pass through our multi-step pipeline and are "recursively enriched" every step of the way as we discover new data related to each destination (eg. spatial data, species information, fishing styles or techniques, regulations, special areas, access points and more. Each of these entities contain data that add valuable color and context to your destination pages).
Page Content Overview
Each destination page contains the following content. Destination pages are landing pages that slurp up a broad range of top of funnel searches—they are also hierarchical with child pages that are focused on more long tail queries (eg: "upper delaware river fly fishing regulations"). The hierarchy is geographic in nature and logically flows from broad/head keywords to long tail as you proceed from parent to child down the tree. Breadcrumbs reflect the structure. The goal is to build a UX that's intuitive for users and machines to reason about and create a wide range of destination pages that position us as the best source of fishing information on the web.. It's important that we visually prioritize accommodations over all other content—our content hierarchy in order of importance is dictated by our mission and how we create value—by connecting fisherman with lodges, guides, and trips—and managing the end to end transaction.
- V1.0 (MOVING TOWARDS LONELY PLANET STYLE CONTENT STRATEGY)

Named Holes
- In highly popular rivers there will be "named holes" (not a great thing to call them) - example Junction Pool where the beaverkill and willowemoc meet. Would be amazing to get this data into our app. Found a mapping company that highlights these. Tough at scale—which makes it more valuable.

Destination Schema
The destination table is a poly-hierarchical model. A city is in a county, which is in a state (clear hierarchy). But a river (like the Colorado) can span multiple states, and a colloquial region (like the Gulf Coast, or the Catskills) can contain parts of many states and many cities.
Search queries are performed based on destination—and all related content is shown on each destination landing page. Examples of related page content below.
Eg. /catskill-mountains-ny/fishing-lodges
- All
accomodationswithin {x} miles of destination - adjustable via input / dropdown - The fishing
techniquespracticed in the destination - All fish
speciesfound in the destination Bodies of Waterfound in the destination- Would list the rivers + lakes (when there are fishing opportunities) found in that particular region
Destination Page Filters & Faceted Nav
Filters are solely for improved UX, they are client side interactions that don’t change the URL—we just filter and cache our queries and show the filtered results on the page.

To Do
- [ ] Need to nail down my tag schema for destination pages. In Triskelos tags came from Rehabs—and location pages used those tags...But now I'm not sure exactly what I'll do, need to get some things loaded into my brain. Just not clicking for me what my route patterns look like for destination pages if I do something like: -
meridiaoutdoors.com/catskill-moutains- -> main page fishing guide will all entities and content. Primary top of funnel driver -meridiaoutdoors.com/catskill-mountains/fishing-lodges- -> lodges nearby this destination—featured content -meridiaoutdoors.com/catskill-mountains/fishing-guides- -> guides that offer trips at this destination -meridiaoutdoors.com/catskill-moutains/fishing-trips- -> bookable trips in this destination with static url -meridiaoutdoors.com/catskill-moutains/waters- -> all the fishable waters in this destination -meridiaoutdoors.com/catskill-mountains/fishing-access-points- -> where to fish—crucial data for maps. -meridiaoutdoors.com/catskill-mountains/fishing-regulations- -> fishing rules, catch limits, equipment restrictions, licensing - -> scraped from govt sites, pipeline keeps data fresh -meridiaoutdoors.com/catskill-montains/fish-stocking- where stocking happens, when and how many fish—display on map. Design map icon and page. Pipeline should handle this. -/catskill-moutains/fishing-conditions- USGS gauges, live data, weather, etc—all personalized to make it useful for fisherman -meridiaoutdoors.com/catskill-mountains/fishing-reports- periodic community repots -meridiaoutdoors.com/catskill-mountains/fishing-outfitters - -> fly shops, fishing shops—map content mostly -meridiaoutdoors.com/catskill-mountains/fishing-gear-guide- -> location specific gear recommendations? Affiliate play? eCom? Overkill? - -meridiaoutdoors.com/catskill-mountains/fishing-boat-ramps` - boat ramps are searched entities, they help users plan trips, and they should absolutely appear on our maps features., - https://naturalatlas.com/boat-launches/shehawken-2129121 - https://boatrampfinder.com/resources/ -- If this is the general direction I'm heading, what keywords do I target on each landing page? How do I avoid keyword cannibalization?
- And how do tag pages work? Do I really add all the species? have to sit down and really think about my tagging scheme and how it's going to work here. Honestly forgot. Big thing to work out.
